Round Table Pizza was started by William R. Larson Sr. in 1959. He opened the first location in Menlo Park, California and in 1961 he adopted the King Arthur theme for his restaurants. In 1979 Larson sold the restaurants to a group of investors. By 2007 the company had franchised 500 locations along with 5 still owned by the company itself. They have locations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. They have also opened Round Table Pizza operations in Idaho and even in Dubai. They filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in February of 2011, but this does not affect the 148 current franchisees and their 355 locations.
The Round Table Pizza menu varies from one location to another, but they all feature pizza, appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and beverages. They have their own premium specialty pizzas along with a create your own pizza as well. Round Table Pizza uses the highest quality ingredients, rolls their dough fresh daily, and they use a zesty red sauce that is made from scratch. The sauce includes 11 herbs and spices and they top all pizzas with a three cheese blend that is made of whole milk mozzarella, provolone, and cheddar. They also feature sides like garlic parmesan twists and Buffalo wings.
Round Table Pizza offers the opportunity to open a franchise if an individual or group has a net worth of at least $500,000. They also require that the franchisee has at least $200,000 in liquid assets, a strong business background, financial management skills, leadership ability, customer service skills, and some basic accounting skills. They charge a $25,000 franchise fee for the first location and $12,500 for any additional locations. They also charge a 4% royalty fee and a 4% advertising fee each month of the gross sales. The contract is for 10 years the renewal options at the end of 10 years.
