Port of Subs Restaurant Franchise
Port of Subs has been in business for over 35 years. It was started by two New Jersey brothers in 1972. They called the first shop the Sub Shop and it opened in Sparks, Nevada. In 1975 John Larson purchased interest in the shop and later purchased the entire shop. The name Port of Subs came from a contest that Larsen ran and it was the submission he decided on. Larsen developed 10 more locations from 1975 to 1985 and he began to franchise the company in 1985 with the help of the largest franchise consulting firm in the world called Francorp. There are currently over 150 units in 7 states and the company has won many awards over the years.
The Port of Subs menu features sandwiches with freshly sliced and top quality meats and cheeses, breads that are baked freshly, many dressings and spices, along with breakfast sandwiches, hot sandwiches, fresh salads, chips, desserts, and beverages. They also offer catering from some locations and many party trays as well. Port of Subs is most well-known for fresh ingredients that are sliced in the store daily and for using local ingredients whenever possible.
Port of Subs offers two unique restaurant franchise opportunities and they require franchisees to have a net worth of $250,000 along with a liquid cash amount of $80,000. The restaurant franchisee also has to have a credit score of 700 or higher and they must pay the franchise fee of $20,000 for the first unit and $15,000 for every unit after that. This is for the regular type of unit, but if a franchisee opens a non-traditional unit, which is usually in a convenience store, supermarket, hospital, airport, military base, college, or even a casino, then the franchise fee is $10,000. Another requirement they have is that the franchisee can put down at least 30% of the total investment to get started.
