Mr. Hero was started in Cleveland on the Westside in 1965 by Robert Coulson.  The first stores were all family run, but that all changed when Coulson divorced his wife in 1976.  The company began to franchise and expanded across Ohio to Toledo, Columbus, Akron, and many other areas.  The company also operated many different locations in the 1980s and 1990s under the name Mr. Philly.  Currently Robert Coulson is the retired president of the company and the current CEO is Michael Nasr.  Michael is also the President and oversees the day-to-day operations of the chain.

Mr. Hero is most well-known for the sandwiches they serve including the RomanBurger, which is an 860 calorie sandwich with 61 grams of fat.  This sandwich consists of lettuce, tomato, online, Mr. Hero’s original oil and spices.  It is layered with two beef patties, Swiss-American cheese, Grilled Italian lunch Meats, and mayo.  They also serve many other sandwiches, pasta, steaks, chicken dishes, waffle fries, other sides, and beverages.  Mr. Hero also features a small selection of desserts, but they are still most well-known for the sandwiches they started with.

Mr. Hero is currently looking to expand in Ohio and they have territories open for franchisees.  They offer a 4 week training program for all new franchises and they do not require any past restaurant experience.  The franchise fee is $21,500 and the agreement is for 20 years with an option for another 10 years.  They do charge an ongoing royalty fee of 5.5% and an advertising fee that is paid weekly of 5.5% as well.  When a new franchise first opens the franchisee has to pay $3,500 for the promotion and advertising of the grand opening and to qualify as a franchisee you must have at least $75,000 in personal liquid resources on top of the franchise fee.
