Fox’s Pizza Den has been family owned for over 38 years.  In 1971, Jim Fox realized his dream with only $500.  He rented a storeroom and a few pieces of rescued equipment from the scrap yards of Pittsburgh.  He opened the first Fox’s Pizza Den in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania and he sold out of all his pizzas the first day.  In 1973 he opened the second location in Harrison City and a third in East Pittsburgh.  This is when Jim decided to introduce the home delivery option to the Pittsburgh area.  This is when Jim’s friends started to call him about opening franchised shops in the area.  In 1974 Jim incorporated the company.  There are more than 300 franchises operating in 32 different states and the annual sales have topped $150 million.

The flagship of Fox’s Pizza Den is the pizza, but they also serve hoagies, Stromboli, wedgies, sides, and salads.  They have a handful of different specialty pizzas and they are very well-known for the sauce they use on their pizza.  They offer a variety of items for dine in and delivery in most of their locations.  The menu does vary slightly from one location to another depending on local favorites and local ingredients that may be available.

Fox’s Pizza Den still offers restaurant franchise opportunities and the initial investment is estimated to be between $100,500 and $157,550 depending on the size of the restaurant and the equipment that is necessary for the area.  They do charge an initial franchise fee of $10,000 and royalties for the first three months of $9– total.  The franchise is set up to have a very low overhead and a very low initial franchise fee so that the franchisee can put a larger amount of the profits back into their pocket.  They are not a typical franchise as they allow more freedom to the franchisee after the initial framework is set up.  You are allowed to add your favorite items and the local flavors as well.
