Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was first started in Texas in 1941 by Travis Dickey, Sr. who started out of a one-room location with the fundamental goal of serving the best barbecue imaginable. Dickey’s is currently in a period of aggressive growth and they currently have over 170 locations in Arizona, Nevada, Indiana, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and many other states. They plan to grow into all the 50 states and there are still 6 locations that are corporate owned. In 1967, Travis’ son took over the company and by 2006 it was time for his son Roland to take over the company, as well. The company is still privately-held and Roland is the President of the company today.
The menu at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, of course, features many barbecue items. They serve many smoked meats, sandwiches, homemade sides, and they even serve salads. They are most well-known for the smoked meats and their barbecue techniques and sauces, but they also serve desserts, beverages, and much more. They offer dinner platters, lunch combination meals, and family packs to go. This is considered to be a barbecue restaurant that is not quite fast food, but instead fast casual.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is one of the fastest growing franchise chains in the country and they are looking for restaurant franchisees to help open more locations in the United States. They are not concerned with whether or not you have restaurant experience because they train each and every franchisee. They encourage multi-unit ownership, but you can start off with one location if you want. It will take about 3 months to go through the process of getting a franchise opened and before you open the store you will have to meet the current President, Roland Dickey, Jr. face to face.
