Del Taco Restaurant Franchise
When Del Taco first came about it was called Casa Del Taco and it was started in Yermo, California by Ed Hackbarth. In 1964 the restaurant opened and made $169 on the first day of business. Hackbarth quickly partnered with David Jameson and started to expand to multiple locations. Later Dick Naugle joined the company and the three also founded Red-E-Food Systems, Inc. In the 1970s Naugle left the company and started his own fast food chain. In 1973 the Casa was dropped and the restaurant was just called Del Taco. In 1976 the company was sold to a group of investors and grew to over 100 locations by 1978. They expanded to about 200 restaurants by 1987 and they merged with Naugles’ 171 restaurants in 1988. By 2000 they had over 370 stores and each store averaged just under $1 million in sales. They were sold again to Sagittarius Brands in 2006 and they opened their 500th store in 2008.
